New England Dreaming

Years ago, surely by mistake, I was transported from my lovely New England to what felt like the middle of nowhere, Western New York. Is it even Western New York? Is it Upstate? Is it The Finger Lakes? Simply put....it is not where I belong. My heart will always be in New England. Pretty much anywhere there. It just feels like home.

I was always so delighted when someone would pop in the shop with a Boston Red Sox hat on or even better, a t-shirt from a bakery well loved in Mystic. It was a brief connection. A touch of home. Often we'd be asked where we were from because our shop felt like places they had been in New England. That was the highest compliment as I spent the bulk of my childhood in such shops on vacations or searching for holiday gifts.

Our New England Field Guide from Wildsam in the American Road Trip Series is one of my favorites. I'd love to have an entire year just to touch base at each suggested location. This pocket sized travel companion yearns to have its spine opened, pages read and corners tagged. The cover should be a little wrinkled and perhaps coffee stained from all the adventures taken. It is not precious....although as an entire collection lined up on a shelf they do look stunning. It screams out to be read. Cover to cover or just dipped into. It is full of unique stops, charming stories and unusual interviews. The type of book that will get you through the winter dreaming up your next adventure.  The best part? These field guides have been written for all parts of the country so no matter where home is to you, you can start planning and dreaming up your next adventure.
