This morning we took our kids to Weekapaug Inn for a very special brunch with Santa. Full disclosure…I am married to the inn keeper…so it would be fair to say I am a little biased. Even so, this was an amazing experience for our kids and one that they won’t soon forget.
This magical brunch started out with the most flavorful smoothie I have ever had. The chai and cardamom gave it a lovely wintery taste and the size of it was just enough to accompany the rest of the meal. A basket of freshly baked croissants, scones and muffins were brought out along with a charcuterie board on which artisans cheeses, meats and pickled onions were carefully placed. The star of the board was the mustard crostini which was thin, crisp and the perfect backdrop to the local cheeses. We could have just stopped there and been completely content. When brunch was delivered our children were in awe at the adorable gingerbread pancake with whipped cream cheese. The pancake was light and airy and served with delicious maple syrup and fresh fruit. The smoked salmon carpaccio was served with fromage, Castelfranco Radicchio and a lemon ginger vinaigrette. Have you ever had Castelfranco Radicchio? It is buttery and melts in your mouth as you eat it. The salmon had the most delicate bagel crisp on top which was just perfect. Smoked salmon can often be heavy- this was the total opposite. Fresh and light and did I mention that the salmon is smoked in house? We love that part. The bite sized sweet treats were brought out at the end of the meal and offered something for everyone with Bananas Foster cupcakes, Spiced Pear turnovers and White Chocolate Mousse cups with a hidden cherry inside.
Weekapaug Inn also offers an amazing Bloody Mary cart which has so many fixings so that you can craft your very own version of perfection. Our favorite part? The bacon. And Oysters. And shrimp.
When it came time to visit with Santa our children were mesmerized. We are all convinced this was not Santa’s helper. This was the real deal. From the beard to the suit and his very magical cane…we left the Inn knowing for sure that we had just met Kris Kringle himself. He spent so much time with each of our children and made them feel special before sending them off with a candy cane and a lovely little bag of Chocolate Crackle Cookies including a recipe to recreate them at home.
Brunch with Santa is being offered at Weekapaug Inn every Sunday until Christmas from 10-2. If you are in the Westerly area, we highly suggest you take this in. It is open to the public and reservations can be made here. It is an experience that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
