We found a great pinot noir about a month ago and are sure it is a wine most of you would love! This Louis Latour Pinot Noir 2006 is about $12.99 a bottle and is the bargain of the year. We liked it so much we immediately went back to our local wine shop in hopes of purchasing a case only to find they only had five bottles available. Until they get more in, we were convinced to try the Marsannay, also by Louis Latour which costs about $15 a bottle but we got for the same price as the pinot as a super kind gesture by the shop’s owner.
You will not be disappointed with either of these bottles. This pinot is a full bodied burgundy wine and goes the best with grilled or pan roasted salmon. It was a match made in heaven! If salmon is not your thing, it also goes great with duck, mushrooms, pork, beef or roasted chicken. It should not be drunk with any dish that is fruit based, spicy or sweet. It is also not recommended to be drunk with smoked fish.
We decanted the 2005 Marsannay and enjoyed it with a variety of cheeses. We found it to be a bit more acidic than the Pinot Noir but thought that it improved as it sat out. We are still hopeful that we will find a case to purchase!
