Yesterday was our third wedding anniversary. Beginning with our wedding dinner at the chef’s table at L’Espalier in Boston, we have decided to continue the tradition of eating out on our special night year after year.
Last night we had dinner in the dining room at Wheatleigh in Lenox, Massachusetts.
Our night began with snacks out on the veranda. It was a beautiful evening so we were thrilled to have a bit of time to sit outside and enjoy snacks and a drink.
Can we just say that these olives are to die for…they were castelvetrano olives and you can find the recipe for the yummy bar nuts on the Facebook page for Wheatleigh.

As if the olives weren’t keeping us happy enough out came these amazingly light and flavorful bite sized tuna tartar canapés served in a crispy shell. We absolutely loved them.

We generally drink wine, but before dinner we opted for a cocktail. We can’t tell you what this was called but it was so incredibly refreshing for a hot summer evening. Strawberries, vodka, brown sugar and a few other ingredients we only wish we could recall so we could make this at home!

Wheatleigh is one of the Lenox “summer cottages” that was built in 1893 as a wedding present for the daughter of New York financier Henry H. Cook. His daughter had married a Spanish Count and as such had done the high honor of bringing a title to the family and so of course deserved a summer cottage…if only we were all so lucky…for the cottage of course…not the count.
The view above is of the dining room. It was simply lovely and peaceful to sit in. Quiet with stunning views… we could get used to dining there. Last night it was set up with eight tables and was not overly busy by the time we were seated at 7:45 or so.

As we’ve mentioned before, after our trip to Per Se we had decided that we would get a bottle of wine from now on with any tasting menu we had rather than opt to pair the wines with each dish. Last night we had a bottle of Jermann Pinot Grigio, DOC from Italy. It was very good and went well with all the courses we selected.
Although we are not going to describe everything we ate, we opted for the four course tasting which came with many “extras”. The staff was very attentive and always available to answer our questions. Here are a few of the photos from our absolutely stunning dinner.
We couldn’t have had a better anniversary dinner. Wheatleigh made this one we will remember.
Wheatleigh Hotel is located on Hawthorne Road in Lenox, Massachusetts.
