We’ve been busting it to finish up a few of the projects we mentioned the last few weeks. The front door is getting primed and hopefully painted within a week. The white shutters are coming down. We have found a stack of lovely green-black shutters in the garage loft and will tackle them as the next curb appeal project. They are so close in color to the new front door paint we selected. I like to think of it as fate.
Inside the bulk of our time has been spent in the family room. We are sort of anchored to that room because it is the only (yes, only) room out of many that our 13 year old blind Jack Russell will not whine in. Side fact…it is currently 1:33 in the morning and I can’t get her to sleep in our bedroom so I am sitting with her in the family room where she went right to sleep. More often than not one of us is here with her so we want this room to be comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and one of the most cozy rooms in the house.
I’m proud to say that in one afternoon I white washed the brick surround of the wood stove and gave the base bricks a thick coat of black paint. The entire corner is looking better every day. I’ve tackled the small bookshelf, put all the kids games away and ditched the pillows that came with our couch for a fabulous swap out. We’ve been debating adding our coffee table back in since our little dog no longer jumps up on the couch – or more specifically no longer jumps down from the couch. We removed it when she lost her sight so that she could get up and down safely. The only thing left to do in that part of the house is to paint the wood paneling that leads up to the guest room. Benjamin Moore White Dove is my go to for trim. We have used it in every area of the house. We find that using the same color for all the trim in the house also makes it easy to touch up and the white will always be the same.
Our last project was to order and hang new curtains in the bedroom. They are the most gorgeous velvet curtains and we love them so much we have the same set in our dining room. They really block light, something we definitely need in the bedroom. Ironing them was time consuming but so worth it.
It was a real indoor work week for us. The pollen has made living with allergies pretty miserable lately. I’m hoping next week we can be back outside. See you then.
